Floors and Walls

Decorating your floors and walls are some of the most important decorative decisions that you will make for your home. Flooring needs not only to be attractive but it also needs to be functional. And, the color and texture of your walls will determine a lot about the style of your room.

Flooring Choices

Hardwood

Hardwood floors can last for generations with proper care. Unlike laminate flooring, hardwood floors can be refinished in order to bring back their natural warmth and luster. Hardwood floors are popular because of all of the varieties that are available: Oak, Maple, Cherry, Hickory, Pecan, Pine, Beech, Birch, Walnut, and more.

Laminate

Laminate flooring offers a lot of versatility as well as affordability. Laminate flooring gives you the beautiful, authentic look of hardwood combined with easy care to suit everyone. Laminate flooring looks very similar to hardwood flooring; however, it is not made from wood at all. They are a composite manufactured to survive significant wear from usage and maintain its original beauty and function.

Tile

Tile comes in a variety of sizes as well as colors so you can achieve many different looks. Ceramic tile always adds a nice touch to the home because you can bring color, texture, and style very simply. If you have pets or children keep in mind that unsealed tile, like terra cotta, stains easily.

Bamboo

Bamboo flooring is beautiful and warm with the natural light tan colorings. Botanically, bamboo is not a wood at all, but rather a grass. Nearly all bamboo flooring sold in North America is produced in the southern Chinese province of Hunan, in an area known as “the bamboo sea” for its extensive bamboo forests.

Carpet

Residential carpet is available in nylon, polyester, olefin, wool or a combination. Installing carpets in your home provides warmth, sound filtering and makes a room safer for young children. Darker carpets and flooring can make a room seem smaller and cozier. Carpet will last you many years, as long as you make sure to regularly vacuum and shampoo it regularly.

Vinyl

Vinyl flooring is becoming more and more popular all the time because of its versatility. It is farily easy to install, and is generally more affordable than many of your other flooring options. Vinyl floor tile needs the correct adhesive in order to bond to the floor, and they also need to be rolled onto the substrate for maximum adhesion.Vinyl kitchen flooring offers many benefits to the homeowner who has children, pets, or lives an active lifestyle.

Cork

Cork flooring is typically not the first thing that pops into most homeowners heads when they think cork. Cork floor tile is environmentally friendly, comes in a variety of styles and muffles noise.

Stone

Stone flooring is durable and can add color, texture, and beauty to any home. It is not always the best choice for families as it can require a lot of care, but don't rule it out until you take a look and really consider all of your options. Slate is a popular stone and comes in many colors, textures, shapes and sizes.

Wallcovering

The process of choosing coordinating wallcovering doesn’t have to be a daunting task if you follow a few simple rules of color and decorating. Choose wallcoverings to reflect the desired feel for the room and its adjoining spaces. Both paper-backed and unbacked fabric wallcoverings are marvelous ways for "upholstering" your walls to provide a dramatic backdrop for your furnishings and personal objects.

Murals

As decorative wall coverings, murals are a striking alternative to traditional decor choices such as wallpaper and border patterns. They are available in different landscaping scenes, antique maps and beautiful panel murals with a floral motif which adds elegance and sophistication to a room.

Wallpapers

Wallpaper can determine the mood of room and reflect the person who uses the space, such as in a child's or a teen's bedroom or playroom. It is better to look at wallpaper books in a local store or magazine than by getting it from the Internet so that you know exactly what you are getting.

Painting

Interior painting isn’t an overly strenuous activity, but it is hard work. Painting a room is the quickest and easiest way to change its look. The colors you choose will make a big impact on the room's style.
