Decorating for Children

When most of us were children, there wasn't much thought given to decorating for children. A child's room normally consisted of a twin bed and cast-off furniture from other rooms in the house.

But now - there is a growing trend towards decorating kids' rooms. Decorating a child's room isn't all that different from decorating the rest of your home, except of course, it should be "child friendly." You need to pay more attention to safety issues with younger children, babies and toddlers.

The quickest way to begin decorating for a child is with a simple coat of paint. Just changing the color of a room can make a huge difference. What kind of personality does your child have? More active children may prefer bold and bright, while quieter kids may want soothing pastels. I believe that very young children should have the more soothing colors so they are more likely to get the rest that they need.

You should be able to adapt window coverings to be able to darken the room at nap time or bring in the light for playtime.

Lighting for the very young child should be out of reach. Don't forget the electrical socket covers. A night light that gives off a soft glow will keep those kiddy monsters away.

The choices are endless for choosing bedding and accessories. The "bed-in-a-bag" sets can be found in any online home decor catalog.
